What is being switched off
- Traditional landlines (PSTN)
- ISDN phone lines
- ADSL broadband that relies on a phone line
After January 2027, any service still using these technologies will stop working
BT is switching off the UK’s traditional phone network in January 2027. This means old‑style phone lines, ISDN services and some broadband connections will permanently stop working.
If your business still uses a traditional landline, ISDN or broadband that relies on a phone line, you’ll need to move to a modern, internet‑based solution before this date.
This change doesn’t just affect phones. Payment terminals, alarm systems, door entry, lifts and other connected services may also be impacted if they use a phone line.
The good news is that there are reliable, cost‑effective alternatives such as VoIP phone systems and full fibre broadband. In many areas, BT has already stopped allowing new or changed copper services, so moving早 is strongly recommended.
